SafeFeed

With a Safefeed, you can pull news data in real-time.

The Safefeed firehose can contain either all content or be filtered based on country, region, language or topics. Configuration of the feed is done by Opoint, any further filtering must be done in your own systems.

Supporting metadata — such as Readership or Topics & Entities — can easily be added to each article.

Python sdk

The reccommended method of consuming the Safefeed is through our Opoint Python library.

This library manages the state required to ingest the safefeed correctly, advancing the lastid and dynamically setting the batch size and request interval to keep up with the feed, or quickly catch up if you fall behind due to some issue on either end. The SafefeedClient comes in both async (using `aiohttp`) and non-async (using `requests`) versions.

Direct API usage

If the Python library is not right for you, you can use the API directly, but you must now take care to implement some crucial details.

Request

Access the feed at the following address:

https://feed.opoint.com/safefeed.php?key=yourkey&lastid=?

The feed makes use of ids to let you know where to get data from next.

If you don't have an initial id from where to start pulling, just pass a question mark for the lastid parameter. The response contains an opoint_search_start element, with an id that you can use as a starting point.

When you pass the lastid parameter, the response will contain articles having arrived after it in time. On the subsequent request, you should therefore fetch the id from the opoint_search_start element in the response, and pass that in order to move forward in time. If you omit this, you will instead pull from the tail of the feed, receiving old data.

Query parameters

  • link key required, string

    You access key.

  • link lastid required, int or ?

First ID not yet received, thus the first ID included in the response. If set to ? the highest available id is returned.

  • link doc_format xml or json, default xml

    Return format.

  • link num_art int, between 1 and 5000, default 500

Maximum number of articles to return per request.

  • link dry_run boolean, default false

If not set, we may, for debugging purposes, keep track of when each individual article was last pulled from the feed.

If set to true, we will not track individual articles, although we may log the fact that some data has been gathered, i.e. that a request has been made.

Response

Depending on the doc_format parameter, responses can be returned in either XML or JSON format. Detailed descriptions about the fields in the response can be found in the search response reference.

Research published by Bain &amp; Company, into the evolution of the financial services industry, showed that “there is a $250 billion growth opportunity in wealth management by 2030 and that scale M&amp;A will ultimately play a critical role as the largest players will outpace the market and be able to invest in the digital and analytical capabilities that will offer differentiated services”, ( Bain &amp; Company: M&amp;A in Wealth &amp; Asset Management, how deals will shake up the industry</p> <p> We spoke to James Salmon , Business Manager for Financial Services, to further explore the top influential factors currently driving M&amp;A activity, and the opportunities it will create for businesses.</p> <p> \"There are a number of positive factors initiating M&amp;A transactions at the moment. Over the short to medium term, we expect larger financially viable businesses to target organisations where they can offer support through digitally-enabled service models, stronger infrastructure, leadership and support capabilities. In turn, these businesses are able to operate more proficiently and cost-effectively, and their clients will inevitably feel the benefit of a truly differentiated service offering.”</p> <p> James goes on to highlight a number of other trends that he believes will continue to impact the market and influence key decisions.</p> <p> Consolidation</p> <p> The UK financial advice market is highly fragmented, with a large number of small firms. We can expect to see more consolidation in the sector, as larger firms look to acquire smaller boutique practices to diversify regional offerings, increasing their market share and efficiency. This trend is likely driven by the increased regulatory burden and the need for economies of scale.</p> <p> Automation and digital innovations</p> <p> Technology continues to play an ever-increasing role in the financial services profession, with a growing number of firms employing machine learning capabilities and digital products to automate manual processes, reach new customers and improve efficiency. More and more M&amp;A deals will focus on businesses looking to acquire technology led services and skilled talent to advance their market proposition and stay ahead of the competition.</p> <p> Increasing demand for financial advice</p> <p> It's no surprise that the importance of and demand for, financial planning and advice has increased post the pandemic with customers wanting to protect their assets and future proof their financials and investments. This has led to greater segmentation amongst bigger national players to re-angle distribution, plus an influx in other market sectors.</p> <p> Private equity-driven M&amp;A</p> <p> Wealth and asset management continues to attract increased attention from private equity firms as they seek strong sources of return-on-investment. The UK wealth management sector remains attractive partly due to the relatively stable and predictable revenue streams, but also the fairly mature, large and affluent customer bases that are available to purchase; predominantly because of regulatory burden, or those seeking early retirement.</p> <p> Diversification</p> <p> Global insurers, private banks and asset management houses are likely to continue to invest in UK wealth management businesses, to expand presence, build customer bases and offer a wider range of services to customers; ultimately allowing these organisations to increase scale and enhance capabilities. In this current climate of continuous disruption, divestitures can be critical in transforming and reconfiguring a firm, significantly driving business value.</p> <p> Global M&amp;A activity will likely rise in the second half of 2023 as business leaders and investors look to balance short-term risks with long-term business transformation needs.</p> <p> If you're looking for support with your financial services mergers or acquisitions or would just like an informal chat about your options feel free contact James Salmon , Business Manager or Tony Bates , Managing Director.</p> <p> Sources</p>"

"text": "<p> Long-Term Care Minister Paul Calandra said only nine of the 625 nursing homes in Ontario remain without air conditioning in resident rooms.</p> <p> Three of those are expected to have units installed by the end of May, and three more are on track to have AC this summer. Two homes have electrical capacity issues but are being redeveloped and will eventually have AC. The government has granted exemptions to those eight homes and recently fined a ninth one.</p> <p> The province is now conducting an inspection blitz, as the warm weather arrives, to ensure homes are complying with legislation that mandates air conditioning in resident rooms.</p> <p> \"It's a shame that we actually had to put a program in place that air conditions the homes, but we're there now, 99 per cent done, and just a couple more left to go,\" Calandra told The Canadian Press in an interview.</p> <p> Legislation passed in 2021 required long-term care homes to install air conditioning in all resident rooms by June 2022.</p> <p> The province gives homes funding for air conditioning and is spending $200 million on the program, Calandra said.</p> <p> The government also recently passed regulations that allow it to slap higher fines on nursing homes not in compliance with the law.</p> <p> Last week, as part of its inspection blitz, the province laid the first such fine under the new rules.</p> <p> Prescott and Russell Residence in Hawksbury, Ont., has been fined $25,000 for not complying with the law.</p> <p> Calandra said inspectors found air conditioning units on site, but they were not installed in residents' rooms. It gave the home a week to comply.</p> <p> \"We've been very, very, very clear to all of them what our expectation is on the air conditioning side,\" he said. \"We funded it. We expect it to be in the rooms and available.\"</p> <p> The nursing home, run by the United Counties Of Prescott and Russell, has taken issue with the fine.</p> <p> Eric Larocque, administrator of the Prescott and Russell Residence, said the home complied with the law last year but found there were some nights in May when temperatures would drop below zero. The home's air conditioning units are installed in windows in the rooms in the building that dates back to 1978.</p> <p> \"It makes a huge draft at nighttime,\" he said.</p> <p> The furnace cannot keep up on those nights, causing temperatures inside the rooms to drop.</p> <p> \"Our residents were getting really cold,\" he said.</p> <p> The home has sensors in every room, he said, and gets alerted when temperatures rise above 26 C or fall below 22 C –temperatures mandated by law.</p> <p> This year, the home set up air conditioning units in 13 lounges should the temperatures in rooms get too hot during the day. They planned to install air conditioning units in rooms in June, when the temperatures would get higher.</p> <p> \"We still believe that we did the right thing,\" Larocque said.</p> <p> He said the home has now complied with the law by putting the air conditioners in all 110 residents' rooms despite some cold nights this week.</p> <p> The home will seek a review of the fine, he said. The issue shouldn't arise next year as they are moving into a new building, Larocque said.</p> <p> Last August, the province fined two homes $1,100 under the old penalty regime. Those homes have since installed air conditioning in every resident room, Calandra said.</p> <p> This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 26, 2023.</p> <p> Liam Casey, The Canadian Press</p>"

  <summary matches="false">
<text> Back to Blogs Despite the macroeconomic challenges that have impacted the Professional Services market, rising interest rates and geopolitical</text>
</summary>
  <body matches="false">
<p><text>uncertainty, M&amp;A activity is expected to rise across the UK Wealth Management sector, in the latter half of 2023.</text></p>
<p><text> With the introduction of new operational models, new ways of working and the huge amount of opportunity created through artificial intelligence and machine learning, it's no surprise that the wealth and asset management sector continues to grow. Research published by Bain &amp; Company, into the evolution of the financial services industry, showed that “there is a $250 billion growth opportunity in wealth management by 2030 and that scale M&amp;A will ultimately play a critical role as the largest players will outpace the market and be able to invest in the digital and analytical capabilities that will offer differentiated services”, ( Bain &amp; Company: M&amp;A in Wealth &amp; Asset Management, how deals will shake up the industry</text></p>
<p><text> We spoke to James Salmon , Business Manager for Financial Services, to further explore the top influential factors currently driving M&amp;A activity, and the opportunities it will create for businesses.</text></p>
<p><text> "There are a number of positive factors initiating M&amp;A transactions at the moment. Over the short to medium term, we expect larger financially viable businesses to target organisations where they can offer support through digitally-enabled service models, stronger infrastructure, leadership and support capabilities. In turn, these businesses are able to operate more proficiently and cost-effectively, and their clients will inevitably feel the benefit of a truly differentiated service offering.”</text></p>
<p><text> James goes on to highlight a number of other trends that he believes will continue to impact the market and influence key decisions.</text></p>
  <p><text> Consolidation</text></p>
<p><text> The UK financial advice market is highly fragmented, with a large number of small firms. We can expect to see more consolidation in the sector, as larger firms look to acquire smaller boutique practices to diversify regional offerings, increasing their market share and efficiency. This trend is likely driven by the increased regulatory burden and the need for economies of scale.</text></p>
  <p><text> Automation and digital innovations</text></p>
<p><text> Technology continues to play an ever-increasing role in the financial services profession, with a growing number of firms employing machine learning capabilities and digital products to automate manual processes, reach new customers and improve efficiency. More and more M&amp;A deals will focus on businesses looking to acquire technology led services and skilled talent to advance their market proposition and stay ahead of the competition.</text></p>
<p><text> Increasing demand for financial advice</text></p>
<p><text> It's no surprise that the importance of and demand for, financial planning and advice has increased post the pandemic with customers wanting to protect their assets and future proof their financials and investments. This has led to greater segmentation amongst bigger national players to re-angle distribution, plus an influx in other market sectors.</text></p>
  <p><text> Private equity-driven M&amp;A</text></p>
<p><text> Wealth and asset management continues to attract increased attention from private equity firms as they seek strong sources of return-on-investment. The UK wealth management sector remains attractive partly due to the relatively stable and predictable revenue streams, but also the fairly mature, large and affluent customer bases that are available to purchase; predominantly because of regulatory burden, or those seeking early retirement.</text></p>
  <p><text> Diversification</text></p>
<p><text> Global insurers, private banks and asset management houses are likely to continue to invest in UK wealth management businesses, to expand presence, build customer bases and offer a wider range of services to customers; ultimately allowing these organisations to increase scale and enhance capabilities. In this current climate of continuous disruption, divestitures can be critical in transforming and reconfiguring a firm, significantly driving business value.</text></p>
<p><text> Global M&amp;A activity will likely rise in the second half of 2023 as business leaders and investors look to balance short-term risks with long-term business transformation needs.</text></p>
<p><text> If you're looking for support with your financial services mergers or acquisitions or would just like an informal chat about your options feel free contact James Salmon , Business Manager or Tony Bates , Managing Director.</text></p>

<text>Nearly 99 per cent of nursing homes in Ontario now have air conditioning in residents' rooms, almost a year after the province set a deadline for the requirement.</text>

<p><text> Long-Term Care Minister Paul Calandra said only nine of the 625 nursing homes in Ontario remain without air conditioning in resident rooms.</text></p>
<p><text> Three of those are expected to have units installed by the end of May, and three more are on track to have AC this summer. Two homes have electrical capacity issues but are being redeveloped and will eventually have AC. The government has granted exemptions to those eight homes and recently fined a ninth one.</text></p>
<p><text> The province is now conducting an inspection blitz, as the warm weather arrives, to ensure homes are complying with legislation that mandates air conditioning in resident rooms.</text></p>
<p><text> "It's a shame that we actually had to put a program in place that air conditions the homes, but we're there now, 99 per cent done, and just a couple more left to go," Calandra told The Canadian Press in an interview.</text></p>
<p><text> Legislation passed in 2021 required long-term care homes to install air conditioning in all resident rooms by June 2022.</text></p>
<p><text> The province gives homes funding for air conditioning and is spending $200 million on the program, Calandra said.</text></p>
<p><text> The government also recently passed regulations that allow it to slap higher fines on nursing homes not in compliance with the law.</text></p>
<p><text> Last week, as part of its inspection blitz, the province laid the first such fine under the new rules.</text></p>
<p><text> Prescott and Russell Residence in Hawksbury, Ont., has been fined $25,000 for not complying with the law.</text></p>
<p><text> Calandra said inspectors found air conditioning units on site, but they were not installed in residents' rooms. It gave the home a week to comply.</text></p>
<p><text> "We've been very, very, very clear to all of them what our expectation is on the air conditioning side," he said. "We funded it. We expect it to be in the rooms and available."</text></p>
<p><text> The nursing home, run by the United Counties Of Prescott and Russell, has taken issue with the fine.</text></p>
<p><text> Eric Larocque, administrator of the Prescott and Russell Residence, said the home complied with the law last year but found there were some nights in May when temperatures would drop below zero. The home's air conditioning units are installed in windows in the rooms in the building that dates back to 1978.</text></p>
<p><text> "It makes a huge draft at nighttime," he said.</text></p>
<p><text> The furnace cannot keep up on those nights, causing temperatures inside the rooms to drop.</text></p>
<p><text> "Our residents were getting really cold," he said.</text></p>
<p><text> The home has sensors in every room, he said, and gets alerted when temperatures rise above 26 C or fall below 22 C –temperatures mandated by law.</text></p>
<p><text> This year, the home set up air conditioning units in 13 lounges should the temperatures in rooms get too hot during the day. They planned to install air conditioning units in rooms in June, when the temperatures would get higher.</text></p>
<p><text> "We still believe that we did the right thing," Larocque said.</text></p>
<p><text> He said the home has now complied with the law by putting the air conditioners in all 110 residents' rooms despite some cold nights this week.</text></p>
<p><text> The home will seek a review of the fine, he said. The issue shouldn't arise next year as they are moving into a new building, Larocque said.</text></p>
<p><text> Last August, the province fined two homes $1,100 under the old penalty regime. Those homes have since installed air conditioning in every resident room, Calandra said.</text></p>
